Laid Back in Black

Fashion is not always uptight, actually, as you may all have noticed, my style is not uptight.

Simple ways of looking laid back is wearing oversized clothes à la the ‘boyfriend’ style, lounge wear, or..just throw on a tank top with harem pants.

Now, harem trousers is nothing new in the fashion world, it’s been around for such a long time - but it was trendy a couple of years ago, but I’ve since been a fan. They are so comfortable and stylish, you can dress them up with heels or just keep them simple with flats.

Keeping it simple, I paired it with a tank top (from H&M) and wedges (old from Topshop), black earring and gold chain (from Primark). I had no intentions of posting this outfit on the blog, but I had more complements than I expected from people re: the trousers and the shoes, so I decided to.

I know many people have mixed reactions about harem trousers, what do you think? Would you wear your old harem trousers in 2013 knowing it was on trend about 2 years ago?

Please leave your comments or feedback, I’m curious!

Happy Sunday, have a lovely week

Street meets Chic

The American high school/sports wear trend came back to fashion late last year and has fast evaded everywhere from high street stores to street style blogs. To be honest, I would never have gone out of my way or voluntarily taken part in the trend, but to my most surprise ever, my boyfriend bought me this jersey top from his trip to New York last October. My first question was ‘Why did you decide to get me a jersey top?’ He is not into basketball and I doubt if he knows anything or players from the NBA. And his answer was ‘I know you like basketball and I thought it would be a pleasant surprise’. He’s so sweet.

So, the top has been sitting in my wardrobe for about 6 months now and he has asked me on a few occasions why he has not seen me wear it- basically, it’s not the most ideal top for winter plus, my days of being a basketball fanatic is gone (sadly), I still watch the playoffs and the odd games but…

Anyway, this doesn’t have anything to do with my outfit. I decided to wear the jersey out on our date over the weekend, he was very well pleased!

Smile

IMG_7468

The power and beauty of smiling is immense

A simple facial expression that says more than a thousand words

It’s power to infect others

Sometimes when I don’t feel like smiling and I see a picture of me smiling, I smile back at myself…

- I say to myself I’m actually quite pretty

- I think I should smile more

- maybe others will smile back at me if I smiled more

- maybe people will find me less intimidating

- I actually have many reasons to smile

- maybe more people will see how relaxed, laid back and down to earth I am

- maybe I will get more opportunities in life

- maybe I can put a smile on someone else’s face

I’ve been told that I don’t smile often enough, perhaps I just don’t have a smiley face, but since that might be misinterpreted by most people, I have decided to turn it up and constantly remind myself that I need to smile more.

Happy Sunday! Please remember to smile even thought tomorrow is Monday! :-D

Wearing a Crop Top

My style is generally more conservative, but I like to push it a little every now and again. The weather has been really good the past couple of days so I thought it was time to put my winter clothes away (not too far yet) and bring out my summer clothes.

I bought this top last summer before I went away on holiday, coincidentally, my last post Runway Thursday was about crop tops – so I thought, well why not? I’ve been working on my abs for a while so I wasn’t spilling over excessively. The obvious trick is to wear it with highwaisted trousers or skirt, in this way you can create an illusion of having flat abs.

I opted for an uber casual look for a day in the park, styling the crop top with a pair of cropped jeans, waistcoat and converse. I’m also loving coloured mirror sunglasses this season, they are just ‘too cool for school’.

To Shop:

Crop top (old) from Newlook, jeans from Topshop and waistcoat (old) from Forever21. Sunglasses are from ZeroUV and necklace from *Cat a Cake (received as a gift).

I’m also debuting my new hair on the blog. The fringe is gone!!

…Me testing angles for pictures with the new hair! Lol.

..so would anyone be joining the crop top wagon this summer? I will be showing more various styling on the blog as it gets warmer.

I really want to know what you think. Yay or nay?

Runway Thursday- Crop Tops

Crop tops are daring! Yes, you need the body and the shape for it, but we saw quite a lot of crop tops in the SS13 runway shows and we are now seeing this trend fast spreading over street style blogs and amongst fashionistas.

This trend first saw its emergence in the mid 80s and continued trending through the 90s – think Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera in their early videos. But I think the come back refines the trend with a modern twist, adding a bit of sophistication which makes the trend look more stylish than back in the 80′s or 90′s. Back then, crop tops was more directed towards a sporty or tomboyish look but styling this trend with a skirt gives more feminine and mature edge, which makes the it appealing to youngsters and adults alike.

If I do join the crop top wagon, I would definitely be styling with a highwaisted pencil skirt or trousers - What do you think? Anyone going to be sporting the crop top this summer? I’m sure everyone is close to getting their perfect summer bodies to work this trend…well apart from me :-) .

The Old Boyfriend Blazer

I found it a bit difficult giving this post a title, but I think I came up with a pretty good one… ‘The Old Boyfriend Blazer’. I’ve had this blazer for a long time and I have a love hate relationship with it. Sometimes it looks perfect and sometimes it makes me look shorter than I really am. On this occasion, I think it looked right, so the look deserves a post on the blog no?

I think in general ‘boyfriend’ fits are kind of tricky if you are short, they either make you look shorter or disproportioned, but I guess at times it works perfectly.

Styling

Nothing complex…a simple graphic t, blue jeans (rolled up), yellow heels (my faves), cream clutch and gold accessories. I wanted a bit of colour pop, yellow is always a good option. I wore this to the Eleven Paris store opening event last week.

To Shop

Graphic T (old) and Jeans from Forever21, Shoes(old) form H&M, Clutch from Next* (I got this in the goody bag from the Next event), I got the necklace recently from St Albans market, word has it that they have it at Spitalfield Market so I guess they will have it at various markets. Bracelet (old) from Oasis.

P.S Yellow makes me happy!! Be a happy reader and let me know your thoughts :)
